recon time

Ok. So I've finally done a recon after a long break from this little project:

I got R51 for the matchstick I auctioned off.
After purchasing 2 items (the dolphin mobile and lighter) and paying the fees I owed bidorbuy for auctioning off these items, I am left with R58.51.

Phew- there was a lot of effort involved in converting the R51 to R58.51. I'm not sure if the R7.51 was worth the time and energy it took to create it... but maybe it's because the value of the items is so small- maybe it's early days... maybe I need to be more creative or take more of a risk to get a higher return on my time and energy involved...

What I am pleased about is I didn't make a loss- I have moved forward, and even if it's a small step forward towards the R10 000, I am R7.51 closer to that goal!

So- time to think about how to spend the R58.51 so that I can move another step closer to R10 000! Any suggestions welcome!

I know it's been ages, got delayed in waiting for the winner of one of my auctions to pay for the item, which I am pleased to say that's been done and the parcel is in the post!

So now I need to do a quick recon and see how much cash I have and what my next step is.

And I've moved to looking to source an item off line to sell on bidorbuy, instead of buying one through bidorbuy. I've really been battling to find something for R51.00 that I could then re-sell, and also to then win the auction when I did find something.

So with a bit of snooping, I found a good supplier off line and am going to suss out the merchandise hopefully this weekend….

So watch this space- if all goes well, I'll be auctioning off an item or two next week!

Well, I've been bidding and keep getting out bid! I tried a few crazy auctions, hoping for a great bargain- and seeing as though I need to get an item and the shipping for R51.00, maximum, I can't bid too high!

So I lost this funky triangle shoulder bag to a guy called "Abraham Nel". He just outbid me near the end of the auction! But at least it led me to this seller called Perkal Gifts! Boy does s/he have a lot of items for sale! I am sure I'll find something from him or her! And s/he has sold over 4440 items! That is actually the number of positive ratings s/he has! So... let's go hunting for a bargain!

no cruise for R51 :(

Well so much for even thinking that I could try get a Cruise for R51- They started the auction earlier than originally advertised and when I got to look at it at the time I thought it was opening for bids, the price had already got into the thousands!

So I'll take a different strategy... and here is a pic of a few items that I am tracking in my nifty MY bidorbuy section, and trying to decide if I should bid or buy or not... for my R51 from Rhino...

can I get a cruise for R51?

Hey! It's crazy auction day, and I've found an auction that opens tonight at 20:00 for just half an hour, that I'll see if I can get for R51! You never know! If I don't bid, I'll definatley not get it...

And it's quite a fitting item I think, as it's for a 4 night cruise on the Melody Durban in the Portuguese Islands and my first buyer was Rhino, from Durban who works on a cruise ship!

Good news!

Rhino has transferred the R51 for his matchstick! Woohoo! I'm waiting for it to reflect on my side, and then I'll be bidding on some thing. I'm really keen to see what I can turn this R51 into!

The hold up has been his satellite access on the cruise ship. It's apparently been all fixed up now, so we'll hopefully hear more from him (",)

The cruise ship that Rhino works on is called the Celebrity Mercury- here's a photo he sent me of it

Rhino looks after the well being of all the IT stuff onboard- he says it's a job he really enjoys, despite it being quite hectic! I'd say it must be a hectic job- imagine how much IT goes into running a ship that size!

So Rhino's on his Celebrity Mercury in Alaska right now. I think it must be really cold there now, what with glaciers around them... I've asked him to send me a photo of a glacier- I've never seen one before, have you?

The Celebrity Mercury is going to be in Mexico soon, and Rhino is looking forward to the sun, even though he says that Alaska has been fun. Then after a whole lot of stops in places in Mexico, they will be off up the Panama Canal and then into the Carribbean (cool!) and Florida. And they're going to pop into Aruba (I haven't heard of Aruba- I'll have to look it up sometime soon).

Well, that's the latest update I have for you for now… People are really amazed that I managed to sell a matchstick for R51.00- it is pretty remarkable hey! I just keep thinking about how cool those dudes are who placed bids on my auction, and to Rhino for winning and being such a sport! I look forward to meeting him when he gets back to Durban sometime, when I drop off his matchstick- which for the time being is sitting on top of my PC for safe keeping (",)

Winner of matchstick auction is in Alaska!

Well, Rhino, aka Marc, got in touch- he's actually on a cruise ship in Alaska right now. And it seems his satellite connection to the net is playing up a bit... So I've suggested I deliver his matchstick when he next cruises into Durban, which is going to be a while still, because he mentioned he's in Alaska for a month and then in Mexico for the next 2 months... I'm waiting to hear from him again, hope that satellite connection comes back online soon, so he can transfer the R51.00 so I can then make a bid on an item.

A matchstick is worth R51???

Hey! Can you believe it? Someone is willing to pay me R51.00 for my other matchstick! And his alias is "Rhino"! It was quite exciting yesterday; did you see the action on the auction?

I was watching it, and over 700 people viewed the auction! 5 people actually placed bids, so thank you for being such sports tsotsi, AbiTUarY, Compman and THE KID!

I'm now waiting for a reply from Rhino as to how I can go about delivering the one matchstick and collecting my 51 buskaroos! (Hey Rhino- check your email! Thanks man!)

And then it'll be interesting to see what I can bid on for R51.00!

THE Auction starts Wed 4th Sept

Welcome to one matchbox. This is where I'll be tracking my story as I try out another little experiment (my other one is called one matchstick)

You see, I came up with this whacky idea, that I just had to try out! So, here we go:

I am going to try turn one matchstick into R10 000 using only auctions on bidorbuy. Think of it as turning one matchstick into a little nest egg, or "match box" as I'll call it here.

So I am going to auction off one matchstick next Wednesday 4th September, crazy auction style. You can see the auction here.

Then from what ever I auction the matchstick off for in that auction, I will use those funds to bid on and win another item... and if I really can't find an item in that price range to bid on, I'll have to go buy something myself. Then with that item that I win or buy, I'll then auction that off again on bidorbuy, and then with those funds, bid for another item, and keep going until I've made R10 000.

Do you think it's possible? Well, let's see! I'm quite excited to find out how it goes.

So come on Wednesday! Crazy auction day! Let's see who will bid what for my one matchstick
